Overview

I worked in the production department as a graphic designer and digital archivist of antique postage for over 5 years until 2020

Background

Background

My main task was to design monthly auction catalogues, and I also restored vintage photographs for print exposure. I handled valuable antique postage, scanned and edited them for catalogues, digital archives, and website content. You can find the catalogues I designed, along with domain experts, on the Robert A. Siegel website.

The article explores the fascinating world of philately, focusing on ten of the most valuable U.S. postage stamps. These stamps are not just pieces of paper but rather historical artifacts and collectors' treasures.

Among them is the "Inverted Jenny," a stamp featuring an upside-down airplane, considered one of the rarest stamp errors in U.S. history. It was born from a printing mistake on a single sheet of 100 stamps.

This article is about Bill Gross, a prominent bond investor, and his auction of a $42.2 million collection of U.S. postage stamps. His comprehensive collection is expected to influence the stamp-collecting market significantly, offering collectors a unique opportunity to acquire rare stamps. The proceeds from the auction will go to charity, and the article also mentions Gross's history of philanthropy through stamp sales.

Scanning | Archiving

I was in charge of scanning, photographing and the editing highly valuable antique postage for production of the company’s catalogues, digital archive and website content.

Digital restoration of antique photographs

The firm had been documenting their history through film photos since 1930, but many had deteriorated over time. I scanned and restored them, creating high-quality digital copies for display and preservation.

Some of these photos were used as background for the company's booth at the world stamp show in New York 2016, highlighting their rich history.
